Money And An Impact

When Making An Impact Requires A Bit Of Cash

George Soros and men of his caliber are examples for modern people for a reason. What they accomplish in life are extremely substantial. Young men and women look to these professionals because they are already accomplished. They’ve done things that children dream of and within themselves. Many people pursue their own dreams but also fall short.

What often happens is a misunderstanding in the reality between dreams and life.

This misunderstanding, for example, is a lead factor to failure and not living up to the image of the dreams we all set. According to Mr. Soros, this falsity we’re highlighting is one that fails to distinguish the line between dreams and life. Read his profile at Forbes.

For example, Mr. Soros understands that his ability to make a real impact is related to his ability in earning large sums of money.

But many in the world would look at this as if a sin or a detestable position.

But think for a moment.

Nothing in this suggests a man to thus be corrupt. Working to first create substance and in order to then give that substance is strategic. This inspires us to make an impact by first impacting our own lives. It’s clear to Mr. Soros that the carriage can’t be placed before the horse. His realization of this is also clear.

Though giving back and making a real impact could have been done at a younger age, George didn’t dedicate his life to philanthropy until well into his years of being wealthy. And we simply call this making an impact because you’re also making a great deal of cash. Read more on NYTimes.com.

Not Everyone Was Cut Out For This

You might find that this is an uneasy prospect for you to follow. But patience is key in both money and life according to George Soros. Not everyone with a lofty dream of earning great sums or using it to give back are actually cut out for the task. You have to evaluate yourself and be honest as you do.

When You First Build Your “Means-To-An-End”

George Soros’ example shows us that there’s a great sense of relief and confidence you get by first building your means to an end. Once your resources are in place, then everything else make sense and feels empowering. Such is the power of being able to accomplish a task with relative ease.

So let us end our message today with Mr. Soros as our example. Seeking wealth like him could be the greatest honor of your life once you can leverage it for the greater good. Give it a try, and then tell us all about it.

Amicus Seeks Cures For Many Orphan and Rare Diseases

Amicus Therapeutics, created to find a cure for orphan diseases, was founded in Cranbury NJ in 2002. After five years of private research, Amicus Therapeutics went public. In 2008, the therapeutics company opened a branch in San Diego, California. Amicus presently has locations in Germany, Spain, France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Italy. The research company relies on many donations from fundraising organizations that include a $210,300 grant from the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation and a $500,000 grant from the Michael J Fox Foundation, known for treating Parkinson’s.

Recently, Amicus Therapeutics (:Small Biotech Seems To Have The ‘Big Mo’) is working on treatment for Fabry disease. Fabry disease is damage to the peripheral nerve fibers that can effect the GI tract, including the kidneys and the heart. It can be diagnosed early in childhood. Fabry disease is considered a lysomage storage disorder. Before Amicus Therapeutics came along, Fabry disease was a fatal disease. Marlou from the Netherlands suffers from Fabry disease that took the life of her grandmother. Marlou’s sister, mother, and aunt currently suffer from Fabry disease. In the Netherlands, it was wrongly assumed that women can only carry Fabry disease and not get it. Marlou knows this isn’t true. A sufferer herself, she isn’t going to let this disease stop her from enjoying life. She’s being treated with Migalistat.

Amicus is working with genetic diseases by researching how to target mutated proteins. In 2007, Mike from Saddlebrook, New Jersey, had a breathing problem that was misdiagnosed. Finally, in 2016 doctors learned he had Pompe disease that is a form of muscular dystrophy. MD has similar symptoms as Polymiositis, also a muscular disease. If Mike hadn’t been diagnosed with Pompe disease and received treatment, he might have died.

Amicus Therapeutics has a patient advocacy program that not only treats these rare, orphan diseases, it also educates the patient to help in treatment. In fact, Amicus is at the forefront of treating orphan diseases. Amicus is the first pharmeceutical company to market therapy for Epidermolysis, a muscular connective tissue disease. The pharmeceutical company is working on chaperone-Advanced Replacement therapy for the many of the orphan and rare diseases.

The World and Human Rights

Given human nature, there is a need for human rights activists. Fortunately, there are quite a few human rights activists that are fighting for the rights of other human beings in different countries. Activists are doing everything they can to not only speak on the issues of human rights, but to also participate in the fight in order to make sure that liberty and justice is experienced by people in some of the more tyrannically ruled countries. While there are activists that have only a theoretical knowledge, there are some that have experienced some of the injustices of the world and are looking to get rid of it because of their experiences.

Among the human rights activists that have experienced injustices is Thor Halvorssen. He is one of the people that have not only experienced injustice, but has also come from parents that have experienced injustice partially because of what they know and stand for. With a father that has been imprison and a mother that has been shot, Thor Halvorssen is one of the people that have experienced first hand the consequences of human rights violations. Therefore, he is very passionate about bringing forth justice in an unjust world. Click here to watch video.

One thing that is admirable about Thor is that he has a lot of energy that he is willing to put forth towards the cause. He is also someone that has a genuine love for humans and people. This is actually a required trait in order to have a desire to fight for the rights of others. He is also someone that stands against injustice, no matter what side is doing the injustice. He is neither a right wing or a left wing type of person. He wants justice for all, no matter what political affiliation they associate themselves with.

The Philanthropy of Thor Halvorrsen

If most people were asked what their goal in life was, many would say that they want to leave the world better than it was. Unfortunately, this goal is often a trite one-liner more than an actual ambition. People will give lip service to the idea of doing good, but the cares of life can be too much and they will not make the time or the effort to reach that goal. On the other hand, there are those who truly are philanthropists, who actually exert effort to change the world. Thor Halvorrsen is among these inspiring and self-sacrificial individuals.

He Founded The Oslo Freedom Forum

The Oslo Freedom Forum is a human rights organization. They emphasize human value and virtue, arguing that people have intrinsic worth. The man living in a hole on the other side of the world with no friends and no purpose in life has value. Their key emphasis is the idea that despite the nation or race of an individual, she will still be worth something and deserves basic human rights. That is why many of their speakers will be men and women from different nations across the world to tell of their struggles and the oppression.

Lucent Technologies And Slave Labor

When a westerner thinks of slavery, she will likely think of the atrocities that occurred during the early years of the United States. She may be thankful that it is over. But the truth is that it is not over. It may be occurring on American soil, but it is certainly not over. Halvorrsen launched a campaign at Lucent Technologies to combat the atrocity of slavery abroad. His campaign pressured China to certify that their products had not been manufactured by slave laborers. This would seriously mitigate the financial prosperity of slavery.

Halvorrsen is a true philanthropist and somebody who many across the world admire. He is a member of a persecuted family, as he currently has relatives who are political prisoners in Venezuela. Both of his parents were murdered as political prisoners. Rather than being bitter, he lives to bring good into the world.
